The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Program prepares individuals to administer prescribed medications, observe and report patient reactions and side effects, and perform related emergency and recording duties under the supervision of a professional registered nurse and/or registered pharmacist in assisted living residences and comprehensive personal care homes or assisted living programs.

The curriculum will be:

  • Each Certified Medication Aide course is comprised of thirty instructional hours.
  • Students will be observed a minimum of 3 medication passes in an assisted living residence, comprehensive personal care homes, or part of an assisted living program.
  • Clinical instructors will observe each student for a minimum of 3 medications pass obervations daily for one week.
  • After successful completion of the medication training course and skills evaluation, the student may register to take the statewide, standardized written competency test administered by PSI contracted by NJ Dept. of Health & Senior Services (NJDHSS).  Registration should be within three months of successful completion of the training program.  If they do not pass the examination within six months of completion of the training program, they will be required to retrain.
